Your Business - Discussing common business problems and past events/experiences

Duration: 30 minutes
My student Laura M. is a wedding planner in Venice. It's a busy season for her with two weddings last Saturday and another one coming up the following Saturday. Luckily, Laura works with a business partner allowing her to book both weddings.

So Sunday was a recovery day for her. It's Tuesday now and I'm aware of the pressure students are under because the majority have full-time jobs or are business owners.

So today we spent the first thirty minutes with Laura explaining the common issues & problems arising from the two weddings last Saturday. A terrace-wedding above.

I learned the difference between a 'riverboat taxi' and a 'taxi boat'.

The most difficult part of the planning was getting 100+ guests on multiple taxi boats to the reception (with taxi boat owners always finding an excuse to bump up the price at the last moment).

All in all its a very demanding job, with 80% of the work being administration, replying to email enquiries & explaining why clients should choose your services over another company. We continue with extra activities that are focussed on Laura's business. We go through some of the instruction emails that are sent out to new couples, with maps and contacts details & locations of the venue, bridges, terraces that have been booked.
